Day 3 of NaNoWriMo, day after Election Day. Once I found out who and what won*, I was too angry to write the Glory story I slogged through yesterday. So I switched and did 1905 words of my unfinished Chicagoplex story, which was easier, more planned out, more anticipated (technically), more violent, and altogether more 'Sally'. Not sure which one I'll do tonight. Finish the short story? or save it for 'angry' nights? probably I won't have much time tonight, so easier might be the way to go.
*Stupid won. The Smart and Gives a D# Party decided to fight fair** this year, knowing the zombies would not. When asked why she didn't carry a single county in the whole state, S&GDm gubernatorial candidate said, "Well, I was an incumbent (in another position) and I was a S&GDm." Isn't that like an NFL quarterback saying, "Yeah, we lost the game, but I'm with the Green Bay Packers, and everyone knows we suck." ?
I'm getting really tired of political flunkies just saying stuff that wouldn't slide by on wikipedia, and huge masses of people just believing it without consulting even a dictionary.
**by which I meant "clean elections" rules, but I've since read in old newspapers that the certain factions within the party went for mean-meany negative campaigning that only cost them goodwill...against the independent candidate, sparing nary a speck of mud for the candidate who wound up actually winning. Somedays, I wonder if they even want to win, or even remember that their intention had been to drain the proverbial swamp.

Last week, at church, the Gospel reading was about Faith and Works, an important tenet of the Catholic belief system as I understand it. The homily (a sermon defined as being a clarification to the congregation of what the Bible readings mean and how they apply to the parishioners' lives) wasn't about faith or works. The bishop had asked that all priests instead read a statement from him about Gay Marriage and why it must not be allowed to be legal. Father LM, God bless him, prefaced it with a story about his early childhood in the Deep South in the 1930s, where the KKK ruled like secret police, how the Klan burned down the only Catholic church within 50 miles of his home, how the Catholics rebuilt it, and how the Klan waited for them to finish, then burned it down again. Father LM's point was that, since hating people was bad, the Church doesn't hate homosexual people just because it (apparently) hates homosexuality. My thought at the time was, "Bad Bishop! No Religious School Funding!"
This week, the Gospel reading had two messages. One was that anyone who does good in Christ's name is a Christian and will be rewarded. (I want to have cards printed up to hand out to evangelicals.) This part mirrored the Old Testament reading, where Moses is told by a scandalized Israelite that two tribe elders are prophesying in the camp, not in the religious tent off at a distance, and Moses says, "Would that _all_ the people of Israel were prophets, and had the Spirit with them." This part was not touched on in the homily at all. The second part was "If an eye offend thee, tear it out." Father F did a brief bit (the standard "this isn't literal") but explained that his marching orders were to play a DVD (yes, a DVD) of the bishop telling us why Gay Marriage was bad etc. Now, none of these churches are set up or equipped to give DVD video presentations, so they fiddled with, and finally, after four wrong buttons, played a little portable DVD player, laid out on the pulpit, with the pulpit microphone lowered to the speaker on the player. I sat there, incredulous and clenched in anger, listening to Bishop M make arguments about how 'traditional marriage has always been the standard throughout civilization', and 'Gay Marriage is a "dangerous sociological experiment"' and how 'a child needs a mother and a father, and two people of the same sex, regardless of how much they might love each other, are depriving that child of either a mother or a father' (no, seriously, these are his arguments.) I kept thinking, "I intend no harm to anyone in this church. I intend no harm..." Then, in the middle (unless he was just getting warmed up for a long one), I got up, and without a word, head down, steps determined, I walked out of the church.

Greetings to the people of Earth and associated Realms. Once again, I, the goddess Glorynnea, Keeper of the Orange Flame, Mother of Elves, Lady of Love, and once-Queen of the Fae, (etc) have borrowed this forum from my reluctant bearlike avatar in order to speak to you directly. I have several related points, but I will endeavor to be brief. First, in discussion with my avatar, we have decided that I should have a 'userpic' to denote specifically when it is I who is speaking, and for this purpose, I have cast, in the role of myself, the actress known as 'Kirsten Vangsness', whose image, with some slight alterations, should be somewhere on your screen as you read this. Secondly, in considering her candidacy, it has come to our attention that she has found a woman to whom she has pledged her life and heart, and therefore intends to imminently marry regardless of the illegality of that act. For them, I wish to say this: I, Glorynnea, goddess of Love, recognize that marriage. It and they have my blessing. May their years together be plentiful, prosperous, and happy. Third, as many provinces (my avatar's included), are engaged in political squabbles over the legality of 'gay marriage', I feel compelled to reiterate my position: If marriage is a sacred institution, then its nature is in the hands of the divine, and those who seek to keep from others a gift of the divine are asserting an ownership far beyond their rights. I, for one, personally consider this withholding to be tragic and barbaric; and in my long life, I've seen scant evidence that the oft-misquoted God of the Israelites is so narrow-minded as small minds like to believe He is. Conversely, if marriage is a civil institution, then civility should be applied in its application, with rules being made according to the overall good of society and with equal respect for each individual citizen. At this point in your history, preventing gay marriages serves neither function. (If I preach to the choir, may they be encouraged by it. If I preach to the stones, may they be moved.) ..... Fourth, our friend, the Shadow Lady, mourns the loss of her marriage; and we mourn with her. No marriage was ever really ruined because two people loved each other; but many are ruined when one person decides to stop.
