Greetings to the people of Earth and associated Realms. Once again, I, the goddess Glorynnea, Keeper of the Orange Flame, Mother of Elves, Lady of Love, and once-Queen of the Fae, (etc) have borrowed this forum from my reluctant bearlike avatar in order to speak to you directly. I have several related points, but I will endeavor to be brief. First, in discussion with my avatar, we have decided that I should have a 'userpic' to denote specifically when it is I who is speaking, and for this purpose, I have cast, in the role of myself, the actress known as 'Kirsten Vangsness', whose image, with some slight alterations, should be somewhere on your screen as you read this. Secondly, in considering her candidacy, it has come to our attention that she has found a woman to whom she has pledged her life and heart, and therefore intends to imminently marry regardless of the illegality of that act. For them, I wish to say this: I, Glorynnea, goddess of Love, recognize that marriage. It and they have my blessing. May their years together be plentiful, prosperous, and happy. Third, as many provinces (my avatar's included), are engaged in political squabbles over the legality of 'gay marriage', I feel compelled to reiterate my position: If marriage is a sacred institution, then its nature is in the hands of the divine, and those who seek to keep from others a gift of the divine are asserting an ownership far beyond their rights. I, for one, personally consider this withholding to be tragic and barbaric; and in my long life, I've seen scant evidence that the oft-misquoted God of the Israelites is so narrow-minded as small minds like to believe He is. Conversely, if marriage is a civil institution, then civility should be applied in its application, with rules being made according to the overall good of society and with equal respect for each individual citizen. At this point in your history, preventing gay marriages serves neither function. (If I preach to the choir, may they be encouraged by it. If I preach to the stones, may they be moved.) ..... Fourth, our friend, the Shadow Lady, mourns the loss of her marriage; and we mourn with her. No marriage was ever really ruined because two people loved each other; but many are ruined when one person decides to stop.
