My friend Crystal and I went to Peter & Jennifer's wedding today. (Longtime readers will, of course, recall that Peter is my brother and Jennifer is my new sister-in-law. ) Despite decidedly rainy weather and the subsequent need to improvise certain adjustments, the ceremony and the event in general went very well. Even my eightysomething grandmother and my cousin Margaret (now living in upstate New York) attended, yet the guests didn't exceed the accommodations provided or form a crowd. The ceremony itself was simple and elegant, yet intricate in some ways. (The food afterwards was yummy, too.)It downpoured late in the afternoon but the precipitation waited until the ceremony was nearly over before even starting.
I know few people would want rain on their wedding day, but personally, I've felt for years that rain is a sign of good fortune to come. It cleanses funerals and annoints weddings...not that there's anything wrong with sunlight, really...maybe I'm just never been a big fan of direct sunlight, anyway. That's all I have time for tonight. I just didn't want to gloss over such a big happening without some sort of report.
May God bless the household of Peter & Jennifer Graham; may their lives together be long and happy; may they weather whatever storms must fall as well as they did today, surrounded by family and friends, smiling often and daunted seldom. Good night, everyone.
