(a fellow parisioner notes its resonance with the Gulf Coast Oil Spill, where the sea itself needs saving from us. In trying to look up the current Spill, I found this BP Oil Spill in Alaska from 2006:

Eternal Father, for all those (human or otherwise) throughout the world who suffer because of the carelessness, hatred, ignorance, and greed of Man; have mercy, Lord. If You would spare a city for the sake of ten good men, perhaps we are still worth sparing, too. Amen.
