I made Miss N a bracelet out of semiprecious stone beads and copper wire, wrote her a poem, and snailed both of them to her a week ago with a letter in which I told her I loved her at least three times. (This was to be the big, official first "I Love You" that the male must provide for the female at the proper moment in the courtship.)
The USPS delivered it (Priority Mail, Signature Confirmation) and their website was happy to tell me on Friday that my package was signed for by "S Hvllvway"... whom neither I nor Miss N have ever heard of. Could anyone tell me what the point of Signature Confirmation is, if anyone who happens to be standing around can sign for the package without saying what connection they have to the person the fershuginer package was addressed to???

I started the month of August with a trip to see family up north. I swam in my lake, my one swim for the summer.
I ate grilled hot dogs, homemade baked macaroni and cheese, grilled barbeque chicken, and a milkshake from a summer takeout place. I saw my Italian aunts (the two surviving siblings of my late and beloved maternal grandmother). I saw the stars, away from city lights. the dusty trail of the Milky Way, even one falling star (I guess it must've been from the Perseid shower.) I hand- wrote a copy of the poem for Miss N underneath those stars.

I also saw my paternal grandmother in the Nursing Home. She didn't know who we were, but she's past the point where it matters to her.
Leaving home to go back was emotionally painful. Four days are short. I am slow in my old age, and need sleep I seldom get.

I sent out the Cthulhu/Superheroes story, ("In Our Darkest Hour") two days before the Aug 15th deadline. I went through three drafts and spent two months on it. The editor sent me a letter saying, "Good job getting in under the deadline! I look forward with anticipation to reading your story, and I'll get back to you with my decision as soon as I make it." He seems nice. I'm waiting to hear back.

August ended with a trip to see dear friends who are only rarely in these parts nowadays. That's a whole nother post.

Roommate S is hooked on WoW. says I can have a character to socialize with other WoW addict friends if I want. I'm tempted but unsure of the practical timecost/benefit ratio.

Roommate S starts her new job today after months of unemployment. fingers and toes crossed.

Roommate S thinks it's time to move. Landlord raises our rent $50 every October and we can't afford any more $ than what we're bleeding now for our current padded cell.
