News: happy new year, live from the future
Jan. 7th, 2005 09:02 pmSeveral weeks, two major holidays, and the complete replacement of our
household computer later, I'm finally back online. All is well. My
apologies to anyone whom I've fallen out of contact with in all the
hubbub and rapid change. My apologies, additionally, to anyone
anxiously long-awaiting my Fall Convention Report. The half-finished
report and fully-finished sidebar went down with the old computer's
hard drive, and I haven't had time to retype them.
We will, of course, be backing *everything* up from now on. New
computer has no floppy disk drive but we've found these nifty things
the size of keychains that hold the data equivalent of 176 floppies.
Dude. I'm saving, like, everything I write-- letters, grocery lists,
the whole nine. It will still take me so long to fill my new keychain
that the keychain I eventually buy to replace the full one will
probably hold *500* floppies, play MP3s, and interface wirelessly with
my digital watch. (I don't own a digital watch, mind you, but by *then*
they'll have these really cool wrist-top computers that make the Apple
IIe I had as a kid look like...well, like the digital watch I had as a
kid. )
Technology is not, however, perfect, as my new Firewall persists in
protecting me from my email and Livejournal accounts. Anyone know how
to teach it to trust a given password blank? As a wall it's great, but
it's kinda low on doors.
be well, everybody.
